Winter Storm Warning / Hazardous Winter Conditions

Boy is it snowing! According to Environment Canada, A winter storm with heavy snow and blowing snow continues across Southern Ontario.

For areas south of a line from Sarnia towards Hamilton, total snowfall amounts of 25 to 35 cm are likely, with the highest amounts near the Great Lakes. In the Greater Toronto Area, total amounts will likely be in the 15 to 20 cm range.

In addition to the heavy snow, strong and gusty winds have reduced visibilities to 500 metres or less at times in blowing snow. The combination of snow and blowing snow is resulting in hazardous travelling conditions. Also, the winds are combining with the cold airmass to produce wind chill values ranging from minus 20 to minus 30 for regions in the winter storm warning.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots are difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, the OPP are receiving reports of many collisions, and roads and laneways are blocked by cars unable to pass through the snow.

According to the Weather Network: “Travel is not advised Monday, especially during the morning hours, due to the amount of snow on the ground, additional snowfall and blowing snow. And given the temperatures, salt will become less effective, cautions Dayna Vettese, another meteorologist at The Weather Network.

Conditions are forecast to improve by this afternoon for the Hamilton, Halton & Peel region as the snow tapers off and winds begin to diminish.

Operations Update:

Our plow crews have been out since midnight, and our walks crews have been out since 2 AM. We will be plowing through the day and overnight tonight to get and keep all throughways open, however traffic conditions, un-cleared city streets and roads and laneways blocked by cars have hindered our crews ability to move between properties, and the morning commute will worsen the situation.

Once the snow has ceased to fall, we will then complete all driveways, walkways and throughways based on your contract specifications.
