Plant of the Month: Paperbark Maple

One of my favourite trees of all time is the Paperbark maple. This tree has the most spectacular reddish-orange exfoliating bark of any tree (yes, better than birch!)

These trees make great focal points for small gardens, they are very slow growing and may reach a canopy size of 20’ x 20’……eventually!

### Growing Conditions:
They grow in full sun to part shade; prefer slightly acidic, well-drained soil

### Size:
This tree is very slow growing and may reach 20’ tall, 15-20’ wide, oval-shaped

### Hardiness:
Adaptable from zones 4-8

### Where to Plant:
This tree makes an excellent addition to any small garden, its ornamental features can be best appreciated if planted near a patio or deck.

### Plant Partners:
Great companions are low growing perennials or shrubs that allow the trunk to remain the focal point; low growing blue junipers contrast well with reddish-orange bark or try
