A Great Start to 2013

Gelderman Landscaping was honored to receive two [Awards of Excellence](http://www.loawards.com/) from Landscape Ontario during the annual ceremony at the Doubletree by Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel, part of Landscape Ontario’s 2013 Congress.

The Vanmierlobenstyn Property (Serene & Green) won the award for **Residential Construction Projects, $10,000 – $25,000**; and the Van Dijk Residence project won the **Water Conservation – Non-Potable Water award**.

At the Van Dijk Residence Henry Vanhengstum installed, and redirected the home’s downspouts, to a 3,000 gallon rainwater holding tank. To further increase water and cost savings a smart controller was installed that manages the properties irrigation needs. The holding tank will automatically draw from the home owner’s water supply during times of drought. For more information about rainwater harvesting, or to see Gelderman at work on this project, take a look at our rain harvesting post from July.

Shane Warren executed a full landscaping job in a 30 x 16 yard – which is the size of most family rooms! Building around the existing deck, superior space planning allowed Shane to install what looks like a $50,000 design for under $25,000 in this confined space. Shane is proud that the final product is exactly what the home owners were looking for. The star of the design is the iron wall accent, which out of the box wasn’t quite right. Shane and his team modified the wall accent to be exactly what the Vanmierlobenstyn’s were looking for. In Shane’s words “I’m glad we did – it really made the project”.

According to Landscape Ontario “Winners of the awards portray a competitive spirit, strive for continuous achievement and improvement, offer services distinctly different from the competition and are stewards of the horticultural trades, sharing a vision for a vibrant and prosperous future. From the winning entries, Ontarians can expect to see inspired outdoor living space designs, that build strong connections to the natural world and projects that incorporate respect, responsibility and community.”

We are proud to be counted among this group! Congratulations to Henry Vanhengstum, Shane Warren, and the Gelderman construction staff – your hard work and craftsmanship are noticed and appreciated.
